James Costa is the Neighborhoods & Families Coordinator for the Department of Leisure, Family, and Recreation. He began working with the division during his sophomore year at Manchester High School, and he is now a UConn graduate with degrees in Journalism & Film Studies.

Now embarking on its 56th year, Camp Kennedy is set to return to the Town of Manchester for the upcoming summer season.
The following are self-submitted blurbs for the inaugural members of the Luminaries of Change Exhibit. The exhibit will open during the People’s Gallery Opening at Leisure Labs at Mahoney Center on Friday, June 18 at 6:30 PM.

From June 18-20, the Town of Manchester’s Department of Leisure, Family and Recreation, in collaboration with several community partners, will host the inaugural Juneteenth Freedom Day Commemoration. The weekend will include mural unveilings, an art opening, a black-owned food & vendor market, a three-on-three youth basketball tournament, family activities, live music and much more.
As the summer approaches, we as a community will begin to shift from our indoor lives to enjoy the outdoor beauty of the Manchester community. In addition to the town’s beautiful parks and leisure centers, be sure to pay a visit to Manchester’s many outdoor hiking and walking trails this summer.
The Town of Manchester’s farmers market season, which includes the Spruce Street Farmers Market and the inaugural Northwest Park Farmers Market, is set to kick off on June 2.
As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, local restaurants and businesses will begin to expand across the downtown area. In order to mark increased outdoor seating for Main Street’s many locally-owned restaurants, road barriers will be dispersed throughout the area to delineate additional seating. However, this year, the barriers are returning with an artistic twist.
Beginning June 1, the Town will prohibit individuals from “[feeding] any wildlife on a regular or continuous basis” on private, town-owned & public property. Read more.

Gallery 153 will host an upcoming exhibit entitled Partnership: Exploring the Dog/Human Relationship, which centers around the theme of “the dogs we love and their human counterparts,” according to exhibit creator Andrea Ruzzo.
