James Costa is the Neighborhoods & Families Coordinator for the Department of Leisure, Family, and Recreation. He began working with the division during his sophomore year at Manchester High School, and he is now a UConn graduate with degrees in Journalism & Film Studies.

In just a few days, the Town of Manchester’s Department of Leisure, Family and Recreation’s 2024 Winter/Spring programming season will officially kick off. With a robust slate of programs, projects and special events on the horizon, be sure to mark your calendars and join in with all that the Department has to offer.
In observance of the Christmas & New Year’s holiday, Department of Leisure, Family and Recreation facilities will adhere to holiday hours.
Adorned with murals of civil rights legends, filled with a renovated gymnasium, art room and tech labs, walls lined with exhibits honoring the rich history of Manchester – this is the Leisure Labs at Mahoney Center.
This year, the Town of Manchester celebrated its Bicentennial, a recognition of Manchester’s founding 200 years ago, all the way back in 1823. For many, 2023 served as a year-long celebration of Manchester, as we “remembered the past, celebrated the present, and dreamed about the future.”
This September will see two large scale, free Town of Manchester community events: the Hispanic Heritage Day Celebration and Lights in the Sky – A Drone Show Event.
From leagues and tournaments, an afternoon at the driving range or a Sunday morning round of golf, the Manchester Country Club has offerings for those of all ages and abilities.
