Camp Registration and Summer Employment are Heating Up!
Warm weather is just around the corner and that means that summer program registration is coming up fast! Summer camp registration begins on Monday April 3rd with the full list of summer programs released Monday April 24th.
Take the opportunity to review some of the most frequently asked questions concerning camp registration, and to review some of our other opportunities for young adults outside of day camp!
Do you have a child at home who has aged out of the traditional summer day camp? Are you still looking for an opportunity to keep them involved with their peers as part of a fun and exciting summer? Well the Town of Manchester still has plenty of opportunities to keep those
“in-betweeners” busy this summer with Recreation Leader in Training Programs and seasonal summer employment opportunities!
The Recreation Leader in Training program (RLT) is a program designed for kids who have participated in the traditional six week summer camp program as campers, and who are looking to continue their involvement with camp at the next level! Participants can pursue either a counselor or lifeguard track over the six week program and all will gain valuable experience that will help them stand out above the competition for jobs the following summer.
During RLT participants receive instruction in camp policies, work on developing team communication, develop leadership and dynamic teamwork skills, and learn how to build resumes and prepare for job interviews. All RLT participants are required to be present for minimally the first three weeks of the program which cover
- Camp policies, counselor/lifeguard expectations, seasonal employee training
- Teamwork and Leadership Development (Ropes course high and low elements training)
- “Camp Fair” CPR and First-Aid Certification Training
During the final three weeks of the camp season, participating RLT’s will be placed at a designated campsite or swimming pool depending on their employment track to job shadow and participate in camp activities. Teens who complete the RLT program are guaranteed an interview for either a counselor or lifeguard position the following summer, however interviews do not guarantee an offer of employment.
For those looking to lead from the front there is still time to complete an employment application with the Department of Leisure, Families, and Recreation. The department is already interviewing for seasonal positions but openings for counselors, camp directors, and lifeguards are still available so submit your application today!
