PERSPECTIVES exhibited at WORK_SPACE

Although the leaves are falling outside, in the front window of WORK_SPACE, they are blooming. In preparation of the Equity & Innovation Symposium (on Jan. 5, 2021) the Galleries at WORK_SPACE are cohosting with  EquityCT as part of the Perspectives of a Pandemic exhibit (from Nov. 28, 2020 – Jan. 31, 2021), we ask you to contribute to our Values Tree by sending us a leaf that finishes the sentence:

“A value that is important to me is …….”

Examples include: kindness, generosity, authenticity, friendship, family, empathy, joy, humor, integrity, growth, fairness, humility, discipline, achievement, simplicity, creativity, accountability, positivity, courage, tradition, innovation, fun, collaboration, justice, honesty, respect, diversity, openness, community etc.

Please visit Main Street to shop, eat, drink and watch our tree grow. Then come back on Saturday, Nov. 28th to experience the special happenings coordinated for Small Business Saturday including the opening of our Art Exhibit and a Holiday Pop-up Shoppe. For more information about submitting art, leading a program, or taking a tour, call 860-647-3168 or email [email protected].

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

MANCHESTER, CT – The Galleries at WORK_SPACE are thrilled to partner with EquityCT for our 2nd annual diversity, equity and inclusion art exhibit and experience which will run Saturday, November 28, 2020 thru Sunday, January 31, 2021. This year our theme is PERSPECTIVES OF A PANDEMIC and features art created since March 2020 to illustrate the diversity of lived experience during these uncertain times.

Whether the art was created to comment on Covid-19, respond to the injustice of structural racism, react to the contentiousness of politics, provide a sense of well-being or as a way to fill time in quarantine, Perspectives welcomes artists of all experience levels and mediums. We encourage first time exhibitors to add their voice and vision to this exhibition exploring the impact these pandemics have had on individuals, communities and the fabric of society. Online and in-person submissions are being accepted through November 13. Exhibit information and artist application forms can be found at: http://workspacemanchester.com/art-culture/.

The show opens on Saturday, November 28, 2020 (Small Business Saturday) with an open-house and pop-up shoppe from 10a-4p and will be part of Downtown Manchester support Love Local campaign. In addition to the on-site exhibit, the Galleries will present Cultural Performances, Community Conversations and Interactive Art & Writing Workshops that explore how art helps us:

  • learn how others see and feel things,
  • process and understand what we don’t yet know, and
  • to heal personal and collective trauma.

Part of the programming includes a day-long Equity Symposium co-produced by EquityCT on January 9, 2021 and a companion exhibit by local High School Students. For more information visit: http://workspacemanchester.com/events-programs/.
