On December 31st, 1969, Richard Nixon proclaimed January 1970, as the first National Blood Donor Month, taking action to increase blood donations throughout the winter season. Shortages of blood donations in the winter result from a wide array of circumstances including holiday celebrations, uninviting weather and cold and flu season. Unfortunately, this puts those who need blood for life-saving care at extreme risk.

The main objective of American Diabetes Month is drawing attention to the 38 million Americans that live with this chronic disease, and to encourage people to join the fight against Diabetes through support, advocacy and education.
With our world constantly evolving, the importance of fostering cultural competency in parenting methods has become increasingly more apparent. The moral skillset of embracing diverse perspectives, traditions, and values has been shown to be necessary in setting children up for success both inside and outside of the classroom, as well as in their future careers. Though many schools utilize culturally responsive teaching and integrate cultural competency into their curricula, it is important to begin this teaching in your own home.

On July 30th, 2024, we celebrate the International Day of Friendship across the globe. Though this holiday is not extremely well-known, it is a wonderful opportunity to emphasize how friendship can foster a sense of community between individuals from all cultures and backgrounds.
