Making Mistakes

As I’m sitting at home watching the kids with this coronavirus pandemic, I went to my five-year-old son’s room, he had this startled look in his eyes as he was climbing on the bed. He had a chair on the bed and a pillow on the floor. I asked him what he was up to, he replied, I’m going to jump off the chair that is on the bed and land on the pillow. It will be fun. I thought right now is not the time to go to the emergency room. I explained to him how he could have gotten hurt. He explained tome the pillow is soft, and he won’t get hurt. I had two responses: first, you are too big to try to land on that pillow, and second, that’s if you can even jump off a chair that’s on the bed. My five-year-old son couldn’t understand. I thought, he’d learn faster if I let him try. Maybe he’s just one of those kids that must learn from his own mistakes and does not want to learn from other people’s mistakes.Back to reality, I said, no. Some mistakes are irreversible. He cried ‘cause he worked to set everything up.
